BALLARAT TOURS

“WHERE THERE IS SO MUCH TO BE DISCOVERED”

Ballarat is a little gem of a regional city, just 60 minutes away from Geelong, and has a rich history. It was considered the world’s richest alluvial gold field during its peak between 1852 and 1853, and this led to Victoria’s famous gold rush, with an estimated 6000 miners per week arriving from England, Ireland, and America to seek their fortune (funnily enough, many of these arrivals sailed into the perilous Shipwreck Coast which is the scene of another one of our specialist tours).

During this period, Ballarat was also the scene of a pivotal moment in Australian history called the Eureka Stockade, when miners rebelled against exorbitant licence fees and were attacked by British soldiers, with 27 lives being lost in the ensuing battle.

Today Ballarat is home to the Sovereign Hill tourist attraction, which beautifully recreates the gold rush period.

While Sovereign Hill is fantastic, there is plenty more to see and do in Ballarat, including the botanical gardens (home of the annual Ballarat Begonia Festival), Lake Wendouree (which was the site of the Olympic Rowing competition in 1956!) and we can even give you a true Australian experience with a trip to the long running Beechworth Bakery, which has some of the very best authentic meat pies you will ever taste!

Please reach out and let our friendly team know if you’d like to arrange a tour in Ballarat, and we will be more than happy to help put a perfect day together for
you.
